Turek

Ján Turek, (* 19.6.1923, Torysky, Slovakia – † 4.11.2019, Levoča, Slovakia). In 1944 he enlisted in Podolínec. On September 2, 1944, during the Slovak National Uprising, German soldiers surrounded the barracks. The Slovak soldiers, among whom he was, were disarmed and taken to the Hannover International Camp in Germany. Later he was taken to Munster Lager and back to Bratislava, from where he managed to escape in January 1945. He graduated from the Forestry School at Sigord. He worked as a forester in the Municipal Forests of Levoča and later in the Military Forests of Kežmarok. He was a meticulous beekeeper and my grandfather.
