In her book Giacometti´s Eye (1994), the theorist and art historian Iva Mojžišová writes: “Giacometti´s portraits, like all good and true portraits, are like double likenesses – they show the personality of a person, captured by another person, and at the same time, in the way the likeness of the model is embodied; they also express the likeness of the maker.” He further writes: ” Even the most penetrating analysis will not make it possible to discern in a work of art the exact boundary between body and spirit, consciousness and subconsciousness, regularity and chance.”
