IMMERSION

The Dive captures a human being in a moment of inner concentration prior to entering the depths—on the threshold of transformation. It is not about an athletic feat, but rather a metaphor for a life and spiritual journey. The facial expression does not convey a definitive emotion; instead, it is a sign of internal focus and disciplined resolve. The work utilizes the motif of water as a space for purification, decision, and renewal. Within the piece, the motif of water is interpreted as “Living Water” (Mayim Chayim, מַיִם חַיִּים) in relation to the biblical image of the river of life (cf. Ezek 47). Here, water is not understood primarily as physical resistance, but as a medium of purification, restoration, and gradual transformation. The artwork deliberately enters into a dialogue between realistic modeling and conceptual intervention. The scale engraved directly into the “skin” on the temporal bone acts as a visual code: a true dive is not measured in meters beneath the surface, but by the intensity of one’s inner surrender. The dive thus becomes a “measuring of the unmeasurable”—a map of a journey on which a person gradually yields control to be carried by a current that transcends them.
